With the film John Wick 4 now set to hit theaters only in 2022, little by little, its derivative previously reported with the title of Ballerina continues to gain news. And among them, the most recent comes through one of the leading names in the franchise.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , screenwriter, director, and producer Chad Stahelski spoke about the development of the film derived from the John Wick franchise that will be directed by Len Wiseman :
“Having him on board (Wiseman) to give a different perception to the development of the action, scenarios, involvement of characters, how and what he wants to do during action sequences, brings an air of novelty. So, we’re not just copying ourselves repeatedly with gun-fu or something. And as the character is different, we will have a different view of things”.
In addition to talking about the new perspective for the project, Stahelski also pointed out that his script is currently under development by Wiseman and Shay Hatten. However, he guaranteed that he does not know the right stage of the project:
“So I know that he and Shay are currently developing Ballerina’s script. I don’t know exactly what stage it is at, but I do know that Lionsgate, Thunder Road, and I want to see what happens sooner or later. And from what I heard recently, they have a good angle and are in active development”.
Stahelski also recalled at the time that the idea of the Ballerina derivative was created by Wiseman himself, who in turn suggested the project initially to producer Basil Iwanyk :
“He understands the action, and I think he has a good visual style. Right away, I thought, ‘he understands ( John Wick ). We need to hire this guy!'”.
About the movie Ballerina
Still, with no critical details revealed so far, it is only known that Ballerina’s plot will be focused on a young murderer who is looking for revenge against the people who killed her family.
It was previously revealed that filmmaker Len Wiseman (Underworld, Swamp Thing) was hired by Lionsgate to lead the new John Wick spinoff feature, while Shay Hatten will be responsible for signing the script.
Basil Iwanyk, the producer of the first films, assumes the same position in the derivative alongside Erica Lee, Keanu Reeves, and Chad Stahelski.
In addition to the film in question and the series The Continental, Lionsgate is currently also working on the development of the movie John Wick 4, which in turn will be released in May 2022.
Ballerina does not yet have a set debut date.
